Integrating an Egyptian store or ERP with e-invoicing and e-receipts

“Which plugin should we install?” is not the first question. Determine which document your business must issue, at which stage, and from which system. The Egyptian Tax Authority’s invoice and receipt guidance should be read with your accountant and current applicable decisions. Separate the order lifecycle from the document lifecycle. A store may create an order before payment or fulfilment. Define when the document is generated and which customer, product, tax, signature, and reference data moves to ERP or POS. Changes to order value must lead to the appropriate corrected document, not an unexplained mismatch. Test cancellations, partial fulfilment, refunds, and delayed payments. Keep a queue of rejected or unsent documents with reasons and owners. The authority publishes an integration SDK, but the technical route depends on your existing software and current obligations.

Chapter 01

Decide the correct document before choosing software

One store may sell to consumers and businesses through the same checkout. A single template is therefore not enough. Have the accountant identify when an invoice or receipt is required for your entity under current decisions, then translate that determination into system rules. Capture the customer type and necessary details without asking every buyer for fields irrelevant to their journey. Review the authority’s invoice and receipt resources when approving requirements. This article is not a final tax interpretation.

If sales come from ecommerce, point of sale, and a wholesale team, map the issuing source for each transaction. Does each channel issue its own document or send sales to a central ERP? Do not let two channels produce separate documents for the same sale. Link order, payment, and document with stable identifiers so finance and support can trace a case without matching customer names manually.

Chapter 02

Repair product and customer data first

Review product codes, units, prices, discounts, tax treatment, and party data according to the transaction type. A storefront may market a product under a different name from its stock code; map them instead of passing unstructured text into a document. If price changes after order creation, which system owns the final amount? Who approves a special discount? These are business decisions to settle before development.

Use a sample of normal and difficult orders with sensitive details removed before sharing it with a vendor. Include a sale with discount and delivery, one with several items, and a partial return. Resolve total mismatches in the source. Adding a submission API over inaccurate data spreads errors faster rather than making the operation compliant.

Chapter 03

Document states need daily ownership

Distinguish an order awaiting payment, a document ready to submit, one sent and awaiting result, one accepted, and one rejected or requiring correction. Pressing “send” is not proof of success. Preserve authority response, reference, and timestamp for every attempt. Show rejection reasons in language staff can act on. After a connection failure, check the document’s state before creating another; uncontrolled retries can duplicate records.

The finance dashboard should show unresolved documents and paid orders lacking the appropriate document under approved rules, with a named owner for each category. If staff still need a spreadsheet to track rejections, workflow is incomplete even when the API works. Set daily review and escalation for cases affecting financial close or customer service.

Chapter 04

Returns and corrections are critical scenarios

Suppose a buyer purchases three items and returns one after delivery. Reducing the order total in the shop is not enough. The system must link the original document to the proper correction path as determined by a qualified adviser. Also test cancellation before payment, refund after payment, and a customer-detail change after issue. Retain history rather than silently overwriting earlier values.

Across several systems, coordinate stock, payment, and document states. A returned item might need inspection before it becomes available to sell. Support may approve a refund before physical return under company policy. These cases should not produce contradictory sales or inventory reports.

Chapter 05

Test an integration people can operate

The authority’s SDK provides technical resources, but one successful API request is not project readiness. Use a test environment, run sales, returns, and failure cases, and reconcile results with ERP reporting. Review signing and credential renewal with the appropriate technical provider and record who may change access. Do not leave sensitive credentials in exposed files or informal messages.

Maintain an operational record linking each order to a document number, its status, any rejection reason, and the person responsible for correction. Simulate a connection failure during submission and later recovery; retrying must not create a duplicate document. Review samples involving discounts, returns, and mixed sales with finance before declaring the integration ready. Keep a test environment and repeatable acceptance cases after POS or ERP changes. Technical tests do not determine the business’s tax obligation; a qualified tax specialist must confirm the applicable document type and current requirements.

After go-live, watch first-attempt acceptance, time to discover rejection, correction time, and gaps between sales and documents. Repeat difficult-case tests after store, POS, or ERP updates. Correct integration starts with applicable obligation and document type, then consistent data and operating responsibility. It is not merely a plugin labelled “e-invoicing”.
